A Bold Anthem for Self-Discovery: muque Kicks Off 2025 with New Single “cheers”

| | ,

Emerging as one of the most exciting bands to watch, muque has just released their highly anticipated single, “cheers”. The track marks the beginning of 2025 with an edgy dance-rock sound and a deep dive into the universal question: How to be oneself? This powerful anthem is a raw and high-energy exploration of identity, self-reflection, and the struggle of personal evolution.

Characterised by gritty down-tuned guitar riffs and a driving beat, “cheers” reflects muque’s ability to blend elements of rock and electronic music with a contemporary twist. The track is underscored by Asakura’s biting lyrics, which speak to the inner conflict of trying to reconcile external expectations with personal desires. It’s a song that resonates with anyone who has ever struggled with their sense of self.

The song opens with an unflinching look at self-doubt and societal pressures, with lyrics like “I’m not myself, I can’t escape / Dance to this song, loved by someone” [translated]. As the track progresses, it evolves into a defiant celebration of imperfection and the relentless pursuit of individuality. The chorus, a cathartic declaration of resilience, amplifies the feeling of liberation from the constraints of expectation.

“cheers” was also first unveiled during the Bonus Stage of their recent successful solo tour, 1st Oneman Tour “Dungeon”, where it immediately garnered enthusiastic reactions from fans. It is now set to become a staple in their live performances, bringing a dynamic new energy to their future shows.

What sets muque apart is their refusal to be bound by conventional music trends. The four-piece band hailing from Fukuoka, Japan, was formed in May 2022, consisting of Asakura (Vocals & Guitar), Lenon (Bass), takachi (Trackmaker & Drums), and Kenichi (Guitar).

The band’s name, muque, is a fusion of the French word for “music”—musique—and the Japanese word muku, meaning “innocence” or “untainted.” This name reflects the band’s ethos: a commitment to creating pure, unfiltered music, free from external influence.

Drawing from global influences, especially Asian sounds, muque blends timeless melodies with innovative arrangements. Their songs are rich in both lyrical depth and emotional resonance, offering listeners a unique, immersive experience of authentic, untainted music.
